Ship ahoy! The Gaza Flotilla

This is my account of the latest aid convoy to Gaza, organised by the Turkish international aid agency, I.H.H. I will add to it whenever I can, and wherever I can attach myself to the internet. As of now, 1.30am on Thursday 20th May, two Bristol convoy veterans, Sakir and Cliff, are waiting for taxis to take them to the Heathrow bus.

Sakir - we met again at the Turkish Mosque in London and I managed to catch up with you on my bicycle.
Cliff - I was told about you by Ed, I don't know you, but I frequented places like the Grosvenor Cafe and even went to school with the "other" Cliff Hanley's nephew.
So "hands across the water" to you both and all the other truly courageous human beings on the flotilla.

    Hi CLiff
Hope you are safe. Am horrified at what has happened. According to the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland, the Israelis plan to deport all the peace activists in the flotilla. Look forward to reading your version of events.
Am off to the Israeli Embassy to protest.

Thinking of all those murdered and injured by the IDF.
    Keep safe,

    Cathie (Bjarnason)

  4. Hi Cliff
We are still in the dark here re what has happened to you and others. All we know is that you have all been imprisoned. Just saw Ed Hill of Bristol PSC being interviewed on Sky News. He mentioned you and Sakir by name. There is great concern for your wellbeing.
Hope you are being treated well.
Look forward to your post once 'freed'.
    Cheery,
    Cathie

    Hi Cliff,
Hope you are home soon. I feel guilty about not being on the convoy myself but I didn't know about it until it hit the headlines. I posted this on the New Statesman blog but they soon removed it:-

"The elephant in the room, as always, is the original British crime of letting the Jews set up a colony, known as Israel, in Palestine in the first place. (Or were we bullied into it by the Americans?) There will never be peace until the Jews go home, or in the case of those of British extraction, come home, where we have a responsibility to make them welcome. Hamas is a Jewish creation. If you don't negotiate with moderates, less moderate people take over. But the time for a negotiated settlement is long past. If the Jews do not leave, there is inevitably going to be another holocaust in the long run & surely, nobody (not even the Arabs) wants that."
    Cheers,
    Ken
